Israeli police kill Palestinian suspected of shooting far-right activist

32-year old Palestinian Moataz Hejazi, suspected of attempting to assassinate a far-right Israeli activist, was shot dead by police after a brief exchange of fire.

Israeli police say they'd been trying to arrest Hejazi for the shooting hours earlier of rabbi, Yehuda Glick.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ISRAELI POLICE SPOKESMAN, MICKEY ROSENFELD, SAYING:

" Our counter-terrorism officers surrounded a house in the Abu Tor neighbourhoods, immediately as they arrived on the scene shots were fired from inside the house at our officers, who immediately responded and shot and killed the terrorist."

U.S. born Glick, was shot and severely wounded in Jerusalem as he left a conference promoting a campaign for Jews to be allowed to pray at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, Jerusalem's most sensitive site and holy to both Islam and Judaism.
