Thousands of Hungarians took to the streets to protest against a government plan to impose a heavy tax on Internet use from next year. Demonstrators held up mobile phones and threw computer parts at the ruling Fidesz party headquarters, during the protest late on Sunday.

The tax, included in the 2015 budget plan, would force Internet service providers to pay 150 forints (0.62 US dollars) per gigabyte of data downloaded or uploaded by users.
