Maglev Train Being Pitched For Washington To Baltimore Service

Commuting is no fun and often requires spending a lot of time sitting in packed, slow-moving public transportation or being stuck in traffic.

A company called The Northeast Maglev is offering a solution, and it involves building a Japanese maglev train line that runs between Washington D.C. and Baltimore.

Unlike the trains already found throughout the US, the travel method utilizes cars that, through the science of magnetic levitation, hover above the tracks and eliminate friction.

The best part, other than perhaps the lack of constant metal-to-metal noise, is that they can move at about 310 miles per hour.

That means that the 40 mile Washington DC to Baltimore trek would take about 15 minutes.

So, how will this wonderful alternative happen?

Well, for starters, by somebody coming up with roughly 10 billion dollars.

Northeast Maglev CEO Wayne Rogers is already on the job. He said that thus far Japan has offered to cover half of the cost.

There’s also the matter of garnering public support, which has been emerging in the proposed service areas.

Others have questioned if a Washington-Baltimore run would really be of benefit to the most travelers. It was noted that California is a much more logical place to build a high-speed rail system, whether maglev or conventional.
