Clashes erupt in Jerusalem after Friday prayers

Israeli police clash with protesters in Jerusalem's Old City after Friday prayers, Palestinians hurling stones at police in the Wadi Joz neighborhood.

Security forces had already been heavily deployed in and around the city since the early morning.

Heightened security measures restricted entry to the Al-Aqsa mosque to women and men over 40.

The mosque is the third holiest shrine in Islam but it's located in a compound Jews call the Temple Mount, Judaism's most sacred site.

Tensions have been high in Jerusalem since the summer, even before the 50-day Gaza war that ended in August.

Friday's outburst of violence underscores a deepening division in this Israeli-occupied part of Jerusalem.
