Tunisia: Six killed after standoff between police and militants

A government official says six people have been killed by Tunisian forces who stormed a house in Tunis to end a standoff with Islamist militants.

At least two gunmen had been hiding inside the house on the outskirts of the capital city since yesterday.

An interior ministry spokesman said that five of those killed were women. The other victim was a man.

A child was wounded during the raid.

Tunisia had increased security around the capital ahead of parliamentary elections on Sunday.

The government had warned that terrorists might try to disrupt the vote.
