The decomposed bodies of several infants were recently discovered inside a storage locker. Police were dispatched to the storage facility in Winnipeg, Canada after a report came in from a staffer who found the bodies.

Law enforcement has referred to the deaths as suspicious but the autopsies are still pending so little is known about the circumstances of their passing.

Police spokesman Eric Hofley commented “Until such time as the autopsies have determined what is the cause of this, we won't know what the full extent of the charges may or may not be."

Hofley said the babies were likely newborns at the time they died. Investigators are talking with an unspecified number of individuals about the case.

Thus far, it doesn’t seem as though the bodies are related to any missing children’s reports. Police are hoping to learn if the babies came into the world alive or not.

Even if the infants were stillborn, charges could result as leaving human remains in storage lockers is illegal.

Hofley called the scene very disturbing and unlike anything he’d seen in his 14 years of service. Counseling is available to officers.
