Human bones were recently found buried in front of a home in Queens. National Grid employees had been working on a gas line when the discovery was made.

One of the staffers was using a backhoe to dig in the yard of a residence. About 3 feet down, the subcontractor saw something that looked like a bone. He shut down the machine and jumped into the opening.

Police were contacted not long after that. Officers arrived and called the New York City Medical Examiner’s office to have them removed from the ditch.

Reportedly five bones were collected. They range in size from 6 to 8 inches long. Police say the femur is the biggest piece found.

At this point, authorities don’t suspect any criminality. The property owner, who has lived at the address for two decades, has no knowledge of where the bones came from or to whom they belong.

A neighbor commented “When we first started raking in our garden, we found a couple of arrowheads and some old pottery. Probably this was just either a burial ground or maybe a family plot.”
