A three-year-old child tragically passed away a day after being left inside a hot car for hours.

Police and firefighters in Phoenix, Arizona were dispatched to the church parking lot on Saturday and learned the boy, identified as Hayden Nelson, had mistakenly been left inside the vehicle.

The child’s mother was at the church for choir practice. At that time Hayden was in the care of her 27-year old friend who was expected to attend the rehearsal as well. The friend got there late, however, and rushed into the church with her own two children. Somehow she forgot about Hayden and left him in the car.

Neither woman realize he was missing until about three hours later, when choir practice was over. Church members searched the building and the mother’s friend went out to the parking lot where she found Hayden.

At that time, the boy was said to be in medical distress. The temperature outside had been in the mid 90s. He was quickly transported to the hospital but unfortunately he did not survive.

The mother’s friend was questioned by police and later released. Information is being sent to staffers at Maricopa County Attorney's Office, who will determine if the woman will face charges.
