Ugandan doctor with ebola being treated in Germany

A man from Africa suffering from the ebola virus has arrived in the German city of Frankfurt for treatment.

The patient is a Ugandan doctor who was working for an Italian charity in Sierra Leone.

This is the second person with ebola to be treated in Germany.

The health minister in the state of Hesse, Stefan Gruettner, said: “The Italian NGO asked the World Health Organisation if there was a possibility for the patient to have treatment in Germany. The Bureau of Foreign Affairs in Germany asked us if we have a possibility and we said yes.”

More than 3,300 ebola deaths have now been reported in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal.

It is a race against time to try to contain the disease, with charities helping to set up specialised treatment centres.
