A lawsuit has been filed against a sperm bank after a Caucasian woman in Ohio was mistakenly sent the wrong semen.
A lawsuit has been filed against a sperm bank after a woman in Ohio was mistakenly sent the wrong sperm. Jennifer Cramblett was five months along in her pregnancy with donor sperm when she and her partner Amanda Zinkon learned of the error.
Reportedly, the Midwest Sperm Bank sent the couple vials containing sperm from a black man instead of that from a white donor, which is what they had ordered.
Cramblett and Zinkon had decided on donor Number 380 who is white. The doctor in charge of the procedure received sperm from the black donor, Number 330.
The mix-up only came to light after Cramblett had already conceived and was ordering additional vials from the same donor so she and her partner could have a second child in the future.
Cramblett remarked “They took a personal choice, a personal decision and took it on themselves to make that choice for us out of pure negligence.” According to the lawsuit, the mistake happened because the sperm bank relies on handwritten records instead of electronic ones.
The couple loves their now 2-year-old daughter with all the hearts, however they have fears of raising her in the mostly white community in which they reside.
Cramblett claims she sought legal action because the sperm bank allegedly didn’t take responsibility for the mistake. She also wants to make sure the same error isn’t made again.
The sperm bank is being sued for breach of warranty and wrongful birth.
