Mako sharks can pretty much be found anywhere on earth. In August, a television host from Texas caught a massive, record shattering one.

Jeff Thomason, who appears on the TV show ‘Predator Pursuit’ bagged an 809.5 pound Mako that measured 11 feet long. Thomason used a compound bow to shoot the arrow and kill the huge shark.

The weight of the beast far surpassed the previous bow fishing record for Mako. Thomason’s shark is said to be about 300 pounds larger than that one.

Makos are popular in sport fishing because they are typically smaller, but they’re not the easiest to catch, being reportedly the fastest of all the shark species with a top speed of 60 miles per hour.

Thomason said it took the work of five people over the duration of 30 minutes to secure the Mako with help from a pulley system.

He spoke about the beginning efforts stating “I try and shoot for the top of the back. As soon as the arrow hit, all hell broke loose. We freaked out because I spined him and we thought he might sink.”

Thomason and his crew donated approximately 400 pounds of shark meat to a homeless shelter in Los Angeles.
