The Canadian man, accused of killing and dismembering a Montreal student back in 2012, admitted to the killing in a Montreal courtroom, Monday.

But the lawyer for 32-year-old Luka Magnotta says he is schizophrenic and therefore not criminally responsible.

Magnotta is charged with first-degree murder, committing indignities to Jun Lin's body (including dismembering him) and broadcasting obscene material.

He's also accused of mailing body parts to Canadian political parties and two elementary schools.

He admitted to the acts underlying the five offenses, but he pleaded not guilty to each charge.

Jun Lin's family lawyer spoke on behalf of the victim's father, with limited information as to not influence the trial.
