Police officer shot in Ferguson

A police officer in Ferguson Missouri was shot in the arm Saturday night while responding to a burglary.

Officials said the officer was chasing two suspects near the Ferguson Community Center when one turned and shot him in the arm.

The officers injuries were not life-threatening and did not seem to be connected to peaceful demonstrations occurring elsewhere in Ferguson.

"I wouldn't have any reason to believe right now that it was linked in any way shape or manner with the protests."

The St. Louis suburb has seen days of racially charged protests after black teenager Michael Brown was fatally shot by white police officer Darren Wilson in August.

Last week the city's police chief issued a video apology to Michael Brown's family but it was not well received and led to more protests.
