Thousands in Hong Kong launch Occupy Central

Thousands fill the streets around Hong Kong government headquarters in what is being called Occupy Central.

These pro-democracy supporters have kick-started their plan to lock down the financial center early Sunday.

They're protesting Beijing's so-called democracy framework for the city.

Activists say Beijing will not succeed in managing Hong Kong.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTIVIST AND HEDGE FUND MANAGER, EDWARD CHIN, SAYING:

"So it's not the real democracy and they (Beijing) still want to remote control Hong Kong. But at the same time they are slowing planning about the reclaiming of Hong Kong prematurely."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) STUDENT, TIM CHOW, SAYING:

"I think liberty and democracy is the most important values in your life. And so we treasure these kind of values. And we see that the political policy addressed by the Chinese government is so dictator. It's like a dictatorship. So I think we have to stand up for democracy."
