Dashcam footage shows police shooting unarmed driver when he reached for his licence

A dash cam video has been released showing a former South Carolina state trooper shooting a driver as he was reaching inside his glove department for his licence and registration.

Former highway patrol officer, Sean Groubert, repeatedly fired on the victim, Levar Jones, hitting him with one bullet in the hip.

31-year-old Groubert has been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature with his bail set at $75,000.

As he was shooting , he shouted at Jones: ‘Get out of the car, get out of the car.’

The victim replied:’I just got my licence, you said get my licence.’

Groubert faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

WLTX reported that Jones is currently recovering from his injury at home after being hospitalised.

South Carolina Department of Public Safety Director Leroy Smith described the case as ‘disturbing.’
