"They slaughtered our children" - Syrian refugee in Turkey

They are fleeing by the thousands.

More than 130,000 Syrian Kurds seek safety and refuge in Turkey.

The United Nations refugee agency says that number could hit 400,000 as Islamic State militants are redeploying towards Kurdish controlled areas in Syria.

Many have endured a terrible journey.

"They slaughtered our children and confiscated our goods and belongings. We were so afraid and ran away."

Entire villages have been captured by Islamic State forces or abandoned out of fear.

"They attacked from all sides. As they started to approach, we left everything behind and ran away."
