The incident happened at a popular crocodile farm & zoo located near the city, and the specific pond involved houses more than a thousand of the deadly reptiles.
According to witnesses, the leap appeared to be intentional, and surveillance footage shows that the woman removed her shoes before entering the waters.
Shortly after she landed in the habitat, workers at the crocodile habitat took actions to rescue her.
Some used large sticks to try to keep the animals from preying on her, but ultimately were unsuccessful at warding off attacks.
It was confirmed by a relative that the deceased had been exhibiting signs of depression prior to the act.
A family member said that they hadn’t heard from her in days and grew concerned.
Only hours before the woman threw herself into the pit, they tried file a missing person report, but were told by police that they needed to wait.
This isn’t the first suicide that’s taken place at the Zoo, and it’s said that the safety measures at the facility have long been too lax.
