German eurosceptics make gains in state polls

Germany’s eurosceptic Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has made significant gains winning more than 10 percent of the vote in two German states – Thuringia and Brandenburg.

AfD was only founded last year in opposition to eurozone bailouts.

It has already won a shock nine percent in Saxony two weeks ago.

In Sunday’s elections the party surpassed all forecasts and analysts claim it is becoming a growing challenge to Chancellor Angela Merkel as it make inroads into her power base.
