Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has approved a new law tightening government control of the Internet just three weeks into his presidency.

The telecoms authority has also been given the power to block sites if they are against national security.

In February, as prime minister he temporarily blocked Twitter after criticism of an alleged corruption scandal involving his inner circle.

The move has prompted public anger and raised concern about freedom of speech.
