A mountain lion that is believed to be behind the attack on a young child, has been killed. The cougar, which weighed about 65 pounds was first spotted by wildlife experts who were using tracking dogs to find it.

“These are the dogs that finally trapped the big cat in the tree 65 feet high. They picked up the scent after the search crews came across these fresh paw prints.”

The creature was about 70 feet up a tree. The mountain lion wasn’t timid in the least bit.

“The cat displayed some extremely aggressive and unusual behavior. Instead of paying attention to the dogs it crouched down and locked eyes with one of the wardens.”

The animal zeroed in on an officer and became highly aggressive. Officials were forced to shoot it with a rifle.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife released a statement after the fact noting “Tranquilizing it was not a reasonable option and the fall would have killed it anyway. No one at the department wanted to destroy this animal but protecting public safety is a first and foremost priority.”

Experts suspect the creature is the same one that went after a six-year-old boy in a open space preserve near a winery in Cupertino, California. The child was bitten on his shoulders and head. He was treated at the hospital and has since been released.

The mountain lion that is now dead was found in close proximity to the attack site. Forensic tests will be conducted to officially determine if the shot creature is responsible for biting the boy.
