Young Yazidi girl escapes Islamic State kidnappers

This is a real life account of the brutality of members of the Islamic State as recounted by a 14-year-old Yazidi girl.

Somaa was kidnapped in Iraq and held for 27-days before escaping.

“That morning we fled our village, Tel Azer. We headed for another village, after around half an hour Islamic State fighters arrived and began to divide us into three groups, young women, older women and young men. They killed all the men, my brother was one of them, I saw him dying.
My friend and I were sold to two sheiks from Fallujah. They were as old as my father. They treated us badly, they beat us. We escaped when the lock failed to hold and we headed to Baghdad.”

Somaa is now back safe with her family in Duhok.

The same cannot be said for the many others held hostage.
