Funeral of Lebanese soldier beheaded by IS militants

STORY: Relatives and members of the Lebanese military gathered in the town of Fnideq in northern Lebanon on Wednesday for the funeral of soldier Ali al-Sayyed, who was beheaded by Islamic State militants in a video posted on social media on Saturday.

IS militants beheaded al-Sayyed, who was one of 19 captured by hardline Syrian Islamists when they seized a Lebanese border town for a few days last month.

The soldier, a Sunni Muslim from north Lebanon, was shown blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back, writhing and kicking the dusty ground while a militant announces he will be killed. Another militant then beheads him.

Relatives and soldiers from the Lebanese army accompanied the body of al-Sayyed from the military hospital near Beirut to his home-town of Fnideq, north of Lebanon with several stops on the way.
