Japan PM Abe promotes women in cabinet reshuffle

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has reshuffled his 18-member cabinet, increasing the number of women from two to five.

He has also raised hopes of a thaw in relations with China, chilled by rows over disputed territory and Japan’s wartime history.

Two veteran politicians with friendly ties to Beijing have been given key posts in Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
