Pakistan PM defies calls to quit amid protests

The opposition leaders, politician Imran Khan and religious leader Tahir-ul-Qadri, have been calling for the resignation of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over allegations of murder charges, corruption and vote rigging in the last year's general elections won by Sharif’s party.

Anti-government protesters, clashing with the police, briefly occupied the building of state television, PTV, on Monday and cut transmissions of the broadcaster's news services in Urdu and English for 45 minutes on Monday.

Al jazeera's Sohail Rahman reports from Islamabad.
