Tensions continue to rise in the Pakistan capital Islamabad as anti-government protesters come to blows with police.

Security forces threw teargas at demonstrators Sunday who've been camped out in front of parliament for weeks despite a court order to leave.

Security forces fired tear gas at protesters the night before and the opposition said a woman was killed in the clashes. Police were not immediately available for comment.

Protesters and opposition leaders Imran Khan and Tahir ul-Qadri want Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down claiming his election win earlier this year was rigged. Sharif has so far refused.

The nuclear-armed nation of 180 million has been ruled by the military for half of its entire history and has repeatedly oscillated between civilian and military rule.

Although the army's role is key to how the crisis unfolds, few believe the army is bent on seizing power again.
