Turkey’s first popularly-elected president to lead a “New Turkey”

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was sworn in as Turkey’s 12th President after serving for 12 years as the country’s Prime Minister. Leaders from more than 90 countries watched as Erdoğan read the presidential oath before the Turkish Parliament before taking his seat from Abdullah Gül. The splendid ceremony witnessed Erdoğan become the county’s first popularly elected president. Erdoğan proclaimed a “New Turkey,” free of instability and insecurity as a result of the election of a president through national will.
