A newborn baby girl was recently found in a garbage can in Kearns, Utah. According to police, the mother, identified as 24-year-old Alicia Marie Englert, put her baby in the trash ‘in hopes it would die and solve her problems’.

An investigation is ongoing into the disturbing incident. The child was taken to a local hospital where her condition is currently listed as ‘extremely’ critical.

Law enforcement believes Englert gave birth some time on Sunday. The infant wasn’t discovered until roughly 7 A.M. on Tuesday when neighbors heard her cries coming from the garbage container.

At first, they thought it was a cat but they soon discovered the baby and retrieved her from the can. Englert returned to her residence shortly after her daughter was found.

She was later questioned by authorities. One of the officers on the scene said that neither Englert nor the child had received medical attention in the two days since the birth.

Englert claimed she was afraid to tell her parents about the pregnancy so she decided to place the child in a neighbor’s garbage. Her mother and father reportedly had no knowledge about the birth and police say they are cooperating.

Englert is now facing a charge of attempted murder.
