Three Hamas commanders killed by Israeli air strike

Palestinians search for bodies in the rubble of a home destroyed by an overnight Israeli air strike.

Hamas says Israel is now targeting its leadership. It says attacks in the town of Rafah, killed three senior Hamas commanders.

They were buried soon afterwards

Hamas Spokesman, Sami Abu Zuhri, is calling for revenge:

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) HAMAS SPOKESMAN SAMI ABU ZUHRI SAYING:

"The assassination of the al-Qassam leaders in Rafah is a big crime that will not succeed in breaking the will of the Palestinian people or weakening the resistance. And the occupation will pay the price God willing."

Yesterday, Hamas says, Israel targeted their top commander, Mohammed Deif.

The attack failed to kill Deif but did kill his wife and son, both of whom were laid to rest hours later.

Hamas believes these latest air strikes send a clear message: Israel is now intent on eliminating the group's military leadership.
