Mark Zuckerburg, the founder of Facebook, is the latest high profile celebrity to participate in the ice bucket challenge, where people post videos of themselves online dumping ice cold water over their own head.

It’s all done in the name of charity, and those who participated have raised around 2 point 3 million dollars.

People accept challenges from others who have participated, giving them 24 hours to either pour cold water over their heads, or donate to a charity that benefits those with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Most people choose to do both, and it’s become an internet phenomenon that has caught on across the United States, and other parts of the world.

Participants are allowed to challenge three people to donate to the charity.

Zuckerburg nominated other successful business executives like Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, Facebook executive Sheryl Sandburg, and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings.

New Jersey governor Chris Christie was the one who decided to nominate Zuckerburg for the ice bucket challenge.

Other popular celebrities who have posted videos of themselves doing the ice bucket challenge include late night television host Jimmy Fallon, and entertainer Justin Timberlake.
