Fresh five-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas agreed in Cairo

A new five-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas looks set to come into force.

Hamas delegates, in Cairo for indirect peace talks, say a fresh deal has been struck.

The Egyptian delegation brokering the negotiations confirmed an agreement between Israel and Hamas had been reached.

It comes as Israel claimed a rocket was fired from Gaza into the south of the country on Wednesday (August 13) evening.

Hamas was quick to deny any such attack.

The groups spokesperson, Sami Abu Zuhri, posted on social media “Hamas denies firing any rockets towards Israel this evening.”

Israel said the attack came two hours before the previous thee-day ceasefire was due to expire.
