Record rainfall in the Detroit area led to flooding that shut down motorways, stranded cars, and is believed to be the cause of at least 2 deaths.

One of them is the passing of 100-year-old Warren woman who drowned in her basement.

She was discovered the morning after the storms passed through by her daughter.

The two had last spoken at 10 pm on the day of the heavy rains.

During one of their conversations, the daughter had urged the elderly woman not to try to deal with water in the basement at the time, but rather to wait until the next day.

Said the Deputy Police Commissioner, “Either she fell or had some other type of medical episode. She ultimately went down in the water and tried to get back to the staircase area, but was unable to get back up.”

Immediate investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death wasn’t possible due to the large volume of emergency calls that followed the floods.
