It is difficult not to be blown away when you lay your eyes on innovative products such as the 3Doodler. Touted as “the world’s first and ONLY 3D printing pen”, it is basically a 3D printer nozzle that comes in the shape and form of a pen. A bulky pen, perhaps, but since it is not that heavy, wielding it is still comfortable. With 3Doodler, anyone can create basic and freestyle 3D shapes, decorative art, personalized art, hanging ornaments, and even jewelry! Really, the possibilities are endless as long as you have the 3Doodler in your hands. The creative process can also be pushed further along by making use of 3Doodler “stencils”, which are made available online by Kickstarter.
So how does the 3Doodler work? You get sticks of plastic filament – the ink – and feed them into the 3Doodler, much like you’d feed glue sticks into a glue gun. That’s it. Start “drawing” 3D objects and structures, wait for a few seconds, and you will end up with solid objects. It does not take more than a few seconds for the plastic to solidify, but the great thing is that you will still be allowed a little time to tweak and fix the shape to your satisfaction. Soon after, your “masterpiece” will be staring right at your face.
The 3Doodler is, hands down, much faster than any regular 3D printer available in the market today. You can take your pick of the plastics to be used; just make sure that the strands measure 3mm to fully get it to work. Unlike most regular printers, there is no need for any software or connecting to any computer to get it to work, since it can work on a standalone basis. An added bonus: printing using 3Doodler is much, much cheaper than using a regular 3D printer! Creativity may need a push in the right direction, and the 3Doodler is the perfect tool to make that move.
