Poland: Warsaw Uprising remembered 70 years on

Poland has been marking the 70th anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.
It began on August 1 as the Soviet Army was advancing towards the Polish capital. The Polish resistance and city residents rose up against the Nazi forces that had occupied their country for five years.
The street battles continued for 63 days but the help they were expecting from the Soviet Army never came, as Soviet troops waited on the outskirts of Warsaw.
The uprising was crushed by the Nazis, leaving more than 200,000 people dead
Nazi troops then razed two thirds of the city in revenge and tens of thousands of Poles were sent to labour camps.
Soon after, the German army fled, allowing the Red Army to march in.
