Tributes for victims of Ukraine crash

Tributes and prayers for the victims of the Malaysia airliner that was shot down over east Ukraine.

Here in Australia, Prime Minister Tony Abbott joined mourners to commemorate the 298 people who died.

Many were Australian citizens and residents.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER TONY ABBOTT SAYING:

"This is not the national commemorative service obviously that will take place in a couple of weeks time when the families and the loved ones of those who are dead have had more time to come to terms with their grief. Then we will come together as a nation in sorrow and in solidarity, nevertheless I think it is important at a time like this to indicate that we are grieving with and praying for all of those who have been impacted by this dreadful, dreadful event."

The victims came from 11 countries and their deaths are felt across the world.

In Malaysia, a candle-lit vigil was held in remembrance of flight MH17.

It's the second time thi
