Moscow subway derailment kills at least 12

The morning commute turned deadly in Moscow Tuesday.

An underground train derailed between two stations killing at least 12 people and injuring up to 120.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) INTERIOR MINISTRY OFFICIAL ROMAN SYOMUSHKIN, SAYING:

"The number of casualties is being updated, the investigation department of the Moscow Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation."

Officials say there seemed to be no suggestion of foul play.

Injured passengers were carried out of the metro stations on stretchers, and helicopters ferried the most seriously hurt to hospitals.

Stunned passengers who got out on their own were met with help by emergency crews.
