Brazil's World Cup dream turns into a nightmare

Everywhere the look of defeat could be seen on the painted faces of Brazilian football fans. A mixture of shock and humiliation at their team’s meltdown at the hands of an inspired German side left Brazilian supporters in São Paulo bewildered at what had gone wrong.

Even the scoring of their solitary goal brought little comfort. Losing 7 -1 is a record defeat for Brazil and a record for a World Cup semi final – not one any of the supporters will cherish.

“The score is more than awful because the president has spent a lot of money to make a good football tournament but the Brazilian team cant play,” complained one distraught Brazilian supporter.

“We are very sad, crying. A bomb as fallen, a very big bomb, I wasn’t expecting it,” said another.

“It’s a failure because Brazil as prepared itself, it has welcomed tourists, put the flags out, painted the streets, bought the shirts and we’ve even decorated our hair …. all for nothing!” cried one woman.

Disbelief for the a nation known as the spiritual home of football and a result which wasn’t supposed to be part of the plan.

Our correspondent in São Paulo, Rita Dantas Ferreira said:

“Without the star Neymar the national team has suffered an historic defeat of 7-1 against Germany. The dream of conquering the 2014 world cup has come to an end.”
