NATO calls on Russia to support the peace process in Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has appealed to Moscow to find a common and constructive initiative for a lasting ceasefire in Ukraine.
In an interview with euronews, he called on Russia to reverse its current course.
“They (the Russians) allow a flow of weapons and equipment and also fighters across the border into Ukraine. We call on Russia to stop destabilising eastern Ukraine,” he said. “We call on Russia to stop supporting the separatist groups. And we call on Russia to withdraw troops from the Russia-Ukraine border.”
During talks in Berlin, the Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministers agreed to hold trilateral talks with pro Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the West would need to play a decisive role in convincing Kyiv to implement the agreements discussed in the meeting.
“I think our Western colleagues should play a decisive role in implementing the declaration that was adopted yesterday in Berlin,” he said. “They should convince the authorities in Kyiv to follow the previsions included in that declaration.”
Kyiv officials claim the continued fighting in the east of Ukraine has killed 200 of their troops since separatism took hold in April.
