A man in Iowa says he lost 37 pounds over 90 days on a fast food diet and went on to lose a total of 61 pounds in 180 days. John Cisna, who works as a science teacher, ate only McDonald's food and he had to follow certain rules.

Strict nutritional limits were set by his students. He was forced to adhere to the daily recommended allowances for carbohydrates, cholesterol and protein.

Cisna also wasn’t permitted to exceed 2,000 calories a day. As for food choices, Cisna had free reign. He claims to have eaten Quarter Pounders, Big Macs and even some of the chain’s desserts, like ice cream.

He also ate some of the healthier menu items like salads and Fruit & Maple Oatmeal. He started an exercise regimen of sorts, walking 45 minutes per day.

Cisna's radical diet was highly successful. Not only did he lose the weight, but his cholesterol dropped from 249 to 170.

For McDonald’s, Cisna’s successful experiment is a bit of good attention for the chain, which was put into a negative light after the film ‘Super Size Me’. Cindy Goody, senior director of nutrition at McDonald’s USA commented “we are pleased he was able to accomplish his goals by making balanced choices, which included many of his favorite McDonald’s menu items.”
