Iraq's army repels ISIL attack west of Baghdad

Fighting back. Iraqi forces forces took back this village west of Baghdad --- days after it fell under the control of Sunni militants.

SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED SOLDIER SAYING:

"This is Ibrahim bin Ali area that we liberated from ISIL and God willing, we will enter Falluja and liberate it for the sake of Iraqis and security of Iraqis."

Launching mortars, the soldiers say they killed several militants, from the group ISIL --- the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Victories here on the road leading to Baghdad are seen as critical to slowing the Sunni insurgent blitz that has upended the country.
