Analysis of police data over the past 5 years has shown that Grand Central Terminal has the most sex crimes when compared to other subway systems in New York City.

Over 10 percent of sex crimes were reported at Grand Central. 369 incidents were found to have occurred there out of 3,000 in total.

Flashing, lewdness and inappropriate touching are some of the crimes listed. All of them are considered misdemeanors.

Reportedly mornings are worse for sex crimes with the peak occurring between 8am and 10am. While the analysis casts a dark shadow over Grand Central Terminal, it wasn’t the only station that showed startling crime numbers.

The most overall crime happened in Times Square and Union Square. Although both hubs came behind Grand Central for misdemeanor sex crimes, the two locations had the highest numbers for ‘property crimes, violent crimes, weapons possession and drug crimes’.

Aqueduct Racetrack, 77th Street and Hunters Point Avenue did well on the analysis with the lowest overall crimes reported. Approximately 48,000 felonies and misdemeanors were recorded from July 2008 to June 2013, but the good news is that between 2009 and 2012, the yearly number of crimes decreased even though there was an increase in the number of riders.
