A woman welcomed a new baby into the world right before she underwent open heart surgery. Edita Tracey was 36 weeks pregnant when she began feeling pressure on her back.
At first, she attributed the pain to the typical third trimester bodily changes, but it progressed and moved to the front of her chest. At that point, she knew something was wrong and called 911.
She was rushed to the hospital. Upon arrival doctors started running tests to find out what the problem was.
They discovered she had a condition known aortic dissection. Tracey’s aorta artery was rupturing from high blood pressure. Due to the direness of the situation, doctors decided to airlift her to another hospital where surgical teams were ready to save both the lives of Tracey and her unborn child.
Doctors performed a C-section in under 30 seconds and spent the next 9 hours repairing Tracey’s foot-long aortic tear in open heart surgery. The perfectly healthy little girl named Arabella weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces.
By the next morning, the surgery was completed and Tracey was deemed to be fine. That’s when she held her baby for the very first time.
Now, Tracey, her husband Ken and Arabella are all home recovering from the dramatic ordeal.
