Dog meat festival in China city angers some animal rights activists

It's a delicacy for some

and barbaric to others

As China's southern city of Yulin sits down to celebrate its annual dog meat festival

Around 10,000 dogs get consumed during the festival

But not everyone will be chowing down on bowls of dog broth

"First of all, we oppose cruelty against animals. Also, if every one of us wants to raise the level of civilization in our society, in our Yulin, and to develop its economy, first of all we need a civilized city. We have to let other people see Yulin people are kind, and not so cruel to animals."

China has seen a growing animal rights movement over the past several years

But some say that dog meat has been part of Chinese cuisine for centuries
