Matadors taken down in Peruvian bullfight

Chaos broke out in rural Peru on Sunday (June 15) after an annual bullfight got out of control and left at least 10 people injured.

The bullfight marks the finale of the yearly Senor Espiritu Santo festival in Ayacucho where locals enter a makeshift ring to show courage in front of a raging bull.

People in the crowd jumped in to assist injured amateur bullfighters and drag them to safety. One young boy jumped on top of a car to avoid the bull's path.

According to local media, many of the participants appeared to be intoxicated during the festivities and one woman tried to push her inebriated husband out of harm's way.

Panic ensued when a drunken ring assistant untied the rope used to protect participants from the bull.

When the bull was freed it charged toward the crowd causing spectators to flee.
