STORY: Katy Perry announced on Thursday (June 12) that she's partnering up with office supply giant, Staples to help put a spotlight on teachers and students.

The singer made the announcement at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. As part of the "Make Roar Happen" effort, the office supply chain, which is the sponsor of the North American leg of Perry's Prismatic World Tour, will be donating $1 million (USD) to the Donors.Choose.org, a charity group that helps fund classroom projects.

"Continually, I have a lot of attention and sometimes its nice to the attention that I have and the spotlight that I have and shine it on things that are more important than green hair and hot pink shoes," said Perry.

The singer's tour resumes in the U.S. on June 22.
