Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas spent 18 long years together. Sadly the couple, who seemed to set the bar for Hollywood marriages, has decided to split.
Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas spent 18 long years together. Sadly the couple, who seemed to have set the bar for Hollywood marriages, has decided to split.
Griffith recently filed for divorce from her actor husband citing irreconcilable differences. In documents filed at Los Angeles Superior Court, Griffith is requesting sole physical and joint legal custody of the pair’s 17-year-old daughter Stella.
She also wants spousal support. It’s not known if the couple lived in differing homes prior to the decision to split. The documentation doesn’t show any separation date.
Sources close to the couple have described the parting of ways as amicable. The last known photograph taken of the couple is dated March 16th and was taken at Los Angeles airport. In it, 56-year-old Griffith is wearing her wedding ring.
The pair met back in 1995 on the set of ‘Two Much’. The following year, after splitting from their spouses, the now 53-year-old Banderas and 56 year old Griffith wed.
During their nearly two decade long union, the couple encountered numerous problems, most notably Griffith’s painkiller addiction which required two trips to rehab. Each issue that sprang up, the pair tackled it together as a family. A rep for both Griffith and Banderas has not yet commented on the split.
