Welcome to the Observers Direct.
This week we travel to northern Mexico, near the border with the United States. The area has always been dangerous for the millions of Latin Americans who try cross it illegally every year. Now there’s a new twist. The authorities are seeing more and more unaccompanied children trying to make the crossing, apparently sent by their parents because of rumours – which are false – that children get special treatment by US immigration.
