Dunya News-Opposition parties reject federal budget for 2014-15

Saying that this year’s budget contains almost no relief for the common man, opposition parties almost unanimously rejected the federal budget 2014-15, lamenting that the masses have further been overburdened with taxation.

They also criticized the government for not meeting the targets it set for itself a year ago in areas such as revenue generation, inflation, expansion of the tax net and overcoming the fiscal deficit.

Senior PPP leader Shazia Marri took the government to task for not meeting revenue collection targets and instead, levying additional taxes.

She said this year too, the government had set itself a revenue collection target of Rs2,810 billion, which was impossible to achieve in the current circumstances.
