Displaced Syrians take shelter in caves

These Syrians from a village near the city of Deraa have been forced to leave their homes.
More than 100 families like this one have fled to the mountains, and are living in caves as a result of Syria's civil war.
Left with nowhere else to go, they're making due on this rocky terrain that many venomous creatures also call home.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) DISPLACED SYRIAN LIVING IN A CAVE, ABU MAJD, SAYING:
"Living conditions here are tough, we are sleeping among snakes and scorpions, but these are more merciful than Bashar. Truly, we are surrounded by snakes, scorpions and other reptiles that come at us from these lands, but this is better than living at Bashar's mercy. My child here, do you see him? I will raise him so that he may take our revenge from Bashar."
They say their main form of sustenance is some vegetation that grows sparsely between the rocks.
But they suffer from a lack of water, access to healthcare, and medicine.
