You Dawg~ 1931 (w/Vintage Film)~ Cab Calloway

Cab Calloway and His Orchestra recorded You Dawg in 1931 on the cheap Banner "dime Store" label (Banner 32323) which was sold in department stores in the 1930s. Calloway's more famous version, Aw You Dawg, was recorded on the Brunswick label in '32. The '31 version seems to have more of the early Calloway joy missing in the later version. Vocals are by Cabell Calloway III himself. The star of this vid is a dog named Luke who was a famous silent movie star from 1914 to 1920. No one owned Luke. It is said that he was a permanent houseguest in the home of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle and his wife Minta Durfee.
