A Phoenix father has been arrested after allegedly tossing his young daughter in a pool to teach her a lesson. The over-the-top disciplinary measure was captured by surveillance footage, and shows Corey McCarthy forcibly throwing the 23-month-old child in.

A woman who had been standing inside the pool, quickly plucked her from the water. According to police, McCarthy tossed the child into the water because she had dropped a 5-week-old puppy into the pool where it died.

McCarthy reportedly claimed he wanted to teach her about the dangers of playing around water. The mother of the toddler, named Samantha, was livid over what happened.

She commented “I am very angry and I'm very hurt and I just hope that my kids are going to be OK from this. People make mistakes, but this is past a poor decision and a mistake. This is a child.”

Samantha and Corey have been together on and off for the past 10 years and have two children together. Recently they encountered some custody problems.

McCarthy was arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse after the incident, as police deemed the disciplinary act unreasonable.
